Laurs Kemp began designing her line of body-positive garments inspired by the Female Gaze after she moved to Portland, Oregon in 2012. The line is produced in Laurs' Portland studio, where she maintains a zero-waste policy and sources many of her materials locally. Her 2016 capsule collection, Yama Yama, is inspired by the music of the Yamasuki Singers, the 1991 arthouse film A Little Stiff, and Portland dance troupe 11 Dance Co.
"I have a thing for Portland designers, and Laurs is no exception. She recently started doing custom embroidery on vintage pieces, and I thought it would be nice to see her embroidered work on one of her collection staples, the raw silk raglan top. She also added some special touches to another favorite style, her kimono jacket."
